SPINDRIFT SLEDDOGS

Here we would like to tell something about our Huskies. At Spindrift Sleddog Tour we have Alaskan Huskies of all ages, from up and coming yearlings to venerable 14 year old pensioners.

These dogs really are something special. They are incredibly affectionate, they love everyone. They are amazingly loyal and hard working. They will take you anywhere, through snow storms, cold temperatures, they just love to run. You have to hang-on to the sled though......if you fall off, like I said they love to run. Whether your there or not...they´ll keep going. Many a musher has had along walk home.

Alaskan Huskies are not a recognised pure bred as such, but are bred from championship lines for strength, endurance and for being sociable and healthy. The bred lines go back to the early 1900s. Because of their varying backgrounds,  they come in every size and colour. Black, white, red, patches, spot....pointy eared, floppy eared...and some with one of each. Blue eyes, brown eyes.....I think you get the picture. You can learn more about huskies and dogsledding history plus much more at www.mushingmagazine.com

But by far the best are the characters. Some people wonder how we can tell the dogs apart. It easy really...they all have a different personality. Some think their tuff, others are a little quiet...and there are those that ,well their just a little different.

Along with the different colours this is normally how we name some of them.Trouble was always out of the puppy box and getting stuck, Spot, because he´s got spots. Some puppies get named after famous musher  Charlie , or different food Schnitzel and Cookie.

But like we said , these dogs are incredible. They have a way of quickly getting into your heart and soul, they always listen and they always give , asking nothing more than some affection and ...of course food. Oh I forgot... they also love to eat..and eat. So you always have to be careful with your lunch..never leave it on the sled, or table...anywhere.

We are always very serious about the care of our dogs.We want Happy and Healthy Huskies, so we house in regulation size kennels, always have clean fresh straw for their boxes and enough fluids and food, this includes dry kibble, meat and fat, soups an water. We are members of Mush With Pride which is an organization that stands for ethical treatment of dogs. Providing Responsible Information on a Dogs Environment. You can get more info on Mush With Pride here

So, this is why we have these wonderful dogs. Every time we stand on the runners of a sled we honored to be allowed to join our four legged friends as they take us on another dogsledding adventure in the wilds of  Lapland. It really never ceases to amaze me personally, how these huskies love to run and explore, whats around the next corner.  Back to Dog Sledding Tours
